Rui Gao Won Scotiabank CCC Music Festival Trophy 2013
More winners would perform at Rising Stars Concert Series
Toronto, April 13, 2013 – Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCC) hosted the CCC Toronto Piano Competition 2013 Award Ceremony & Gala Concert on April 6. 15 young winners of various classes showcased their music talents at P. C. Ho Theatre. MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan, MPP Bas Balkissoon and Councillor Raymond Cho were also in attendance.
Scotiabank has been the presenting sponsor of CCC Toronto Piano Competition since 2010. Rui Gao, 13 years old 8th grader, won the Scotiabank CCC Music Festival Trophy this year. He was born in Japan, started learning piano at four and migrated to Canada with his family at six. Rui did not feel the pressure of having long hours of piano practice. Instead he found music a good way to reduce stress and make him more focused. He also learns taekwondo for the same reason. Rui’s mom thanked CCC for giving the young talents like his son memorable experience of performing on stage in the state-of-the-art Theatre, a very unique feature of the piano competition.
Some of the winners will have the opportunity to perform at the upcoming Rising Stars Concerts series scheduled for May 5, June 23, October 20 and December 8, all Sundays at 3 pm, followed by refreshment and meeting with artists. These concerts will be held at Loretto Abbey, 101 Mason Blvd, Toronto (Yonge and York Mills & Wilson area). Admission is free.
