Competition Rules

  1. The competition will consist of four rounds.
    • Round 1 Twenty contestants, a 25-minute solo recital program.
    • Round 2 Twenty contestants, a 30-minute solo recital program.
    • Round 3 Six Semifinalists, a 50-minute self-chosen solo recital program.
    • Round 4 Three Finalists, a concerto selected from the Competition Concerto List.
  2. Please refer all repertoire selections to the Competition Repertoire Rules.
  3. All work must be performed from memory.
  4. The order of performance of the contestants is determined in a drawing by the contestants before competition. The order of performance for the Final round is determined by the conductor.
  5. Each contestant must bring seven copies of the score of pieces composed after 1950.
  6. Composition recorded on audition DVD may be performed one time during the competition in accordance with Competition Repertoire Rules.
  7. Contestants must be ready and willing to perform at any time other than their assigned time.
  8. Contestants will not make contact with Jurors as long as they remain in competition. Violation will result in disqualification.
  9. Jurors will abstain from voting for their current students.
  10. The signed application constitutes agreement to the Competition rules and regulations.
  11. All decisions made by the Competition Committee and Jurors are final.
  12. All contestants must be present at the P.C. Ho Theatre on November 1, 2010, for the Opening Ceremony, performance order drawing and official photograph of the 2010 competitors.
  13. Cash prizes are in US dollars and subject to Canadian income tax laws.
  14. Copyright: For any performance that takes place during the Competition or during the prizewinners' concerts arranged by the Organizer, the Organizer reserves the right to:

    1. Broadcast it via television, radio or internet
    2. Record it, irrespective of whether the recording will be broadcast or not.
    3. Take recordings, photographs or video and then reproduce, distribute or sell these recordings, photographs, or videos as printed materials, CDs, DVDs etc.
